As we approach Valentines Day let’s look at Venus the Goddess of Love and have some fun with colors and how they can work with healing emotions as they relate to romantic relationships.
Venus was known as the ancient Roman Goddess of Love, Beauty and Vegetation. Her mythology derives from that of Aphrodite, the love goddess of the ancient Greeks. As a nature goddess, Venus is associated with the fertility of springtime. She bestows gentle balmy days, and flowers are known to grow in her path.
Venus inspires people to love one another, though she is concerned more with sensual love than the duties of marriage. She is more associated with romantic union (pleasure, sexuality, luxury & beauty).
Venus had many affairs, most notably with Aeneas, the founder of Rome. She had many children including Cupid, god of love. Once a year, Venetians celebrate their city’s marriage to Venus by tossing a wedding ring into the sea.
A number of flowers are sacred to Venus, most notably the rose. Nowadays giving a rose is one of the most common symbols lovers give to show their heart felt love. Different colored flowers have different meanings. Red roses traditionally symbolize pure love.
In the body love is known to physically manifest in the heart chakra. The colors associated with the heart chakra are pink and green. Not only does this chakra govern love but envy & jealousy as well. The combination of pink and green (which is the aura manifested by the heart chakra) associates these colors with love.
Color is everywhere. It can affect our moods and it can affect our personalities. It can also have a powerful effect on our romantic relationships. Knowing this we can use colors to help shift our emotions.
The colors of the rainbow are related to energy centers or “Chakras” in the body. When certain colors are depleted, the mind and body may be adversely affected. Let’s look at how we can use these colors to shift into a more positive state.
- RED is the color of life, love, anger and sexual passion. Red color therapy can help to build up our self-confidence, vitality and courage.
- ORANGE symbolizes joy and happiness and is the color of the Sun. It is a great color to use when you’re feeling down.
- YELLOW is both a purifying color as well as a color that improves communication.
- GREEN is known as a cleansing color that is also connected to fertility and longevity.
- BLUE is a cool, calming color that will soothe and balance emotions.
- VIOLET is the color of the spirit and creativity. It can also heal emotional pain.
Whether you’re in the first rose-hued flush of love or singing the blues because love hasn’t arrived, there’s plenty that the magic of color can do to ensure a blissful romantic future!
